American Express “Serves Up” Interactive Experiences for Tennis Fans and Consumers at Iconic Sporting Event to Enhance Brand Presence and Create Unforgettable Experiences for Cardmembers.
August / September 2009, New York, NY: To enhance the fan experience, brand presence and to create unforgettable experiences for its Cardmembers at the US Open, American Express is bringing a series of new and innovative interactive platforms for tennis aficionados and consumers at the celebrated tournament - which runs from August 31 through September 13.
Now, in its 16th year as a US Open partner, American Express is focusing on activities that drive value for its Cardmembers, many of whom are deeply passionate about the sport of tennis.
American Express is dedicated to growing and deepening its ties within the sports and entertainment industries.
Sharing their Cardmembers passion for the sport, American Express is reinvesting their resources in tennis by working with a select group of up-and-coming players such as Sam Querrey (US), Caroline Wozniacki (Denmark), Shahar Pe’er (Israel), and Gael Monfils (France).At the 2009 Open, American Express unveils several new features, including two onsite virtual gaming experiences– “Challenge A Pro,” and “Rally Experience” with tennis pros Querey, Pe’er, Wozniacki, and Monfils.
Additionally, through the official iPhone application of the US Open and USOpen.org, American Express will give fans across the country the opportunity to enjoy the energy of the tournament even while away from the courts.
A brief overview of American Express’ “business” presence at the 2009 US Open:
Challenge A Pro – Virtual Tennis Vs Pros: At the “SmashZone,” fans position themselves before a “green screen” to virtually hit a winning shot against tennis pros Sam Querrey or Caroline Wozniacki. A digital video is captured and sent to each virtual tennis star via text, or email to share with family and friends or to post on their respective social networks.
Rally Experience – Gaming and Tennis Combined: Fans have the opportunity to meld their love of gaming and tennis by simultaneously engaging in a virtual tennis match with tennis pros Shahar Pe’er or Gael Monfils using their mobile phone as a control.
American Express will donate $1 to the United States Tennis Association (USTA) Serves Foundation for every participant that plays throughout the US Open event, up to $10,000. By way of a giant LED screen located at the heart of the Open, attendees can keep track of the number of participants and the action.
Official iPhone Application – Exclusive Access/Content: American Express is partnering with the USTA and IBM on the first ever official iPhone Application of the US Open, a service which allows users to access an insider’s guide with news, draws and scores, and tune into USOpen.org Radio. Special features include video content with pro players Sam Querrey, Caroline Wozniacki, Shahar Pe’er, and Gael, and an “Ask A Booth” option which allows users to submit questions to be answered by tennis experts throughout the tourney.
Partnership with Ralph Lauren – Exclusive Gifts / Offers: American Express is offering exclusive gifts for Open attendees. Those who purchase $100 or more on-site with an American Express card will receive a 20% discount card on merchandise at www.ralphlauren.com or in Ralph Lauren and Ralph Lauren Rugby locations beginning September 14.
American Express Radio Live: Complimentary for Cardmembers, the Radios allow fans to listen to the play-by-play commentary and match updates on CBS, ESPN2 and the Tennis Channel, while they watch the action live from the court. Fans can also hear special live interviews and player spotlights on Sam Querrey, Caroline Wozniacki, Shahar Pe’er and Gael Monfils, who share their personal stories of triumph, disappointment and inspiration on and off the court.
USOpen.org Radio Presented by American Express: Through this internet radio broadcast, everyone can enjoy the energy of the tournament even while away from the courts. The highlight show features hourly updates on players, action on the courts and capture insights and commentary from tennis pros.
