To Commemorate Earth Day, Frito-Lay Begins Harnessing Power of the Sun
to Produce Thousands of Bags of SunChips Daily
Tuesday, May 27, 2008 – New York City: Ben & Jerry’s, along with Peace One Day and The Lennon Estate, paid homage to the peace efforts of John Lennon and Yoko Ono by re-creating their Montreal “Peace Bed-In.”
Ben & Jerry’s CEO Walt Freese provided welcome remarks and discussed the importance of promoting world peace. Jerry Greenfield, co-founder of Ben & Jerry’s launched the latest Lennon-inspired ice cream flavor “Imagine Whirled Peace” and recalled the efforts put forth by John Lennon and Yoko Ono through their 1969, “Peace Bed-In” in Montreal Canada.
Jerry read a statement from Yoko Ono and recognized Roy Kerwood, original photographer from the 1969 Bed-In. Walt then introduced Maggie Gyllenhaal, award-winning actress and peace activist, who discussed her demonstrated commitment to peace and announced the winners of the Peace Pioneer Search.
Search winners, Aaron Voldman and Robert Kent, were presented their $10,000 reward checks and provided brief comments on their personal peace objectives. Walt Freese then introduced the company’s partnership with Peace One Day. Jeremy Gilley, founder of Peace One Day, closed the event commenting on the need for a global peace action.
