The most recent Oral Health America Report Card issued by the U.S. Surgeon General’s Office
notes that access-to-care and shortages of resources are posing a threat to the overall oral
health of many Florida residents. As part of its commitment to reach 100 million children in the
U.S. by 2010 with free oral health education and dental screenings, Colgate-Palmolive
Company partnered with the United Way of Miami-Dade County and Boys and Girls Clubs
of Miami to host an oral health festival that shared with over 300 Miami-Dade Elementary
School students, the best practices for maintaining dental health.
The program featured music, costumed characters and the “Deal or No Deal Dental
Challenge,” a game show created especially for the students that was hosted by
“HighSchool Musical” star and recording artist Corbin Bleu.
The teen sensation also cheered on the students as they boarded Colgate’s “clinic on wheels,”
one of a fleet of mobile dental vans that provide free dental screenings, treatment referrals and
oral health education for millions of children across the U.S.
