Wednesday, September 22, 2010, New York, NY: Iconic cyclist and cancer activist Lance Armstrong and LIVESTRONG President & CEO Doug Ulman brought the global fight against cancer to the Big Apple as they attended former President Bill Clinton's "Clinton Global Initiative" (CGI) sessions in New York City.

In addition to participating in a special CGI panel session entitled "Addressing Cancer in the Developing World: Health Equity and the Overlooked Health Crisis," the seven-time Tour de France champion made a surprise visit to patients at New York City's St. Luke's - Roosevelt Hospital.

Though he is known for his legendary achievements as an athlete, Lance broke into song with cancer patients as they received their treatments. Crooning Beatles tunes and other hits, Lance lifted the spirits of all who were in earshot of the champion cyclist.

The special CGI health session which Lance Armstrong participated in as a panelist was moderated by CNN Chief Medical Correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta. This session focused on efforts underway to increase access to effective diagnosis and quality treatment for cancer in the developing world. It also explored the work undertaken as a result of two CGI commitments made in 2008 by Lance Armstrong and Felicia Knaul, with partners including Paul Farmer of Partners in Health and Princess Dina Mired of Jordan.

Armstrong and Ulman were both in New York City on behalf of LIVESTONG - an non-profit organization which "inspires and empowers" cancer sufferers and their families along with providing practical information and tools for public health and research. LIVESTRONG fights for the 28 million people around the world living with cancer - and connects individuals to the support they need, leverages funding and resources to spur innovation, and engages communities and leaders to drive social change.

Building on President Clinton's lifetime in public service, the Clinton Global Initiative reflects the former President's belief that governments need collaboration from the private sector, non-governmental organizations, and other global leaders to effectively confront the world's most pressing problems.
