June 2017: New York City: It’s a New York City tradition that brings Broadway’s biggest stars singing themes from their hit productions for tourists, workers on their lunch breaks, and theater fans who just can’t get enough of the Great White Way.

On a sunny Friday afternoon, the annual Stars in the Alley outdoor concert, produced by The Broadway League, celebrated the official end of the  2016-2017 Season leading up to the 2017 Tony Awards.

This Broadway season was among the theatre district’s most successful.

Broadway League President Charlotte St. Martin noted that an overwhelming 80% of travelers to the United States list Broadway as their number one reason for visiting this country. St. Martin also revealed that Broadway League members bring education and arts to over 20 million youth across the country, and that the actors themselves reach even more young people through their own charities and community activities.

Hosted by Broadway veteran Tituss Burgess, known for his roles in The Little Mermaid, Guys and Dolls, the free concert included performances from musicals which have been nominated for the 2017 Best Musical Tony Award: Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812, Dear Evan Hansen, Come From Away, and Groundhog Day. Falsettos star Brandon Uranowitz served as the Stars in the Alley “Social Media Correspondent.” Telly Leung, who has starred in such noted productions as In Transit, Godspell, and Rent, was thrilled to be performing at this first Stars in the Alley event.

At the urging of the performers, fans took mobile photos which they shared on #StarsInTheAlley.
