NYC VIBE at the

2018 CFDA Awards

June 2018 – Each June, The international fashion community honors the best and the brightest in American design!

The CFDA’s are considered to be the highest honors in the entire fashion community. They are also known as the “Oscars of Fashion”. This year’s ceremonies at the Brooklyn Museum recognized outstanding contributions made to American fashion in womenswear, menswear and accessories. The CFDA’s also honored the best in journalism, creative vision, personal style, and lifetime achievement.

Nominations for each award were submitted by the CFDA Fashion Awards Guild which is made up of over 500 members, top retailers, journalists, stylists, and influencers. Like the recent Grammy’s and the Oscars – The CFDA Awards moved forward on the issues of inclusiveness and diversity, highlighted by having Issa Rae as the first Black Female host of the event.

This year, the CFDA introduced a new category – the Influencer Award! The first ever CFDA Influencer recipient was also the first individual to “Break” the Internet, Kim Kardashian West!

No CFDA event would be complete without the prestigious Icon Award. This year’s honoree, Naomi Campbell, opened doors for models of color, and served as a call to action to the world’s best designers. Oprah Winfrey also was in attendance to present the CFDA’s Media Award to Edward Enninful, validating the importance of the media bringing American fashion to the global stage. In a special addition to the evening, The CFDA members salute to Ralph Lauren saw some of the world’s greatest names in fashion, past and present, together on the same stage to pay tribute to the fashion legend.

As always, The CFDA Awards celebrated American design with style and grace, and they serve as a reflection of hoe the fashion industry is evolving. We’ll see you on the red carpet at the CFDA Awards in 2019!
