MAMA SARAH OBAMA AMONG HONOREES AT UN WOMEN’S ENTREPRENEURSHIP DAY

November 2014: New York NY: Business leaders, influencers, and government officials attended the inaugural Women’s Entrepreneurship Day (WED) which commenced at the United Nations on Wednesday, November 19.

This event, in partnership with the U.S. Department of State, marked the world’s largest celebration of successful women entrepreneurs and innovators who have brought their ideas to life, driven economic growth, and expanded human welfare. As such, Governor Andrew Cuomo proclaimed November 19 as “Women’s Entrepreneurship Day.”

The defining goal of Women’s Entrepreneurship Day is to empower women and their businesses, as well as gather a think tank of women leaders, which will ultimately create an amplified merged message to expand businesses with social good initiatives in communities locally and globally.

During the WED event, several women were cited for their groundbreaking work in their respective fields which correlate with WED’s mission to empower women.

Among the Women’s Entrepreneurship Day Pioneer Award recipients included:

• Women’s Entrepreneurship Day Business Pioneer Award: Lynn Tilton
• Women’s Entrepreneurship Day Technology Pioneer Award: Sandy Lerner
• Women’s Entrepreneurship Day Philanthropy Pioneer Award: Loreen Arbus
• Women’s Entrepreneurship Day Fashion Pioneer Award: Tamara Mellon

Mama Sarah Obama is a stepmother the President’s father, Barack Obama.

Notable attendees included: Jimmy Choo Founder Tamara Mellon, Cisco Systems Co- Founder Sandy Lerner, Her Excellency Madame Penehupifo ‘Penny’ Pohamba First Lady Of Namibia, and Oscar Nominated Actress Quvenzhané Wallis.

The founder and CEO of WED is Wendy Diamond, Founder, CEO and CPO, Animal Fair – a pet lifestyle media company.
