USGA – American Express Launches Play 9 with Rickie Fowler

USGA And American Express Launch Play 9 Day

FAR HILLS, N.J. – The USGA and American Express, along with professional golfer Rickie Fowler, invite golfers everywhere to get out on the course and participate in the first-ever Play 9 Day, Wednesday, July 23, 2014.

Introduced at this year’s U.S. Open via a public service announcement featuring Fowler, the Play 9 program encourages golfers to fit a nine-hole round into their busy schedules, and rallies the golf industry to promote the game’s accessibility.

Many golfers find it challenging to regularly fit in a full round, and playing nine holes can help them get more out of the game they love, in less time.

According to the National Golf Foundation, more than 4,000 of America’s courses are nine-hole facilities. In addition, nine-hole rounds can be played at nearly 90 percent of 18-hole public facilities. An average nine-hole round generally takes less than two hours to complete, and costs an average of $25 per person.

Golfers with an 18-hole USGA Handicap Index® can easily post a nine-hole score at most golf courses, by adding the readily available USGA nine-hole Course and Slope ratings. All golfers are encouraged to post a score and share their photos and experiences via social media using #Play9Golf.
