NFL Honors: Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton wins
Pepsi Rookie of the Year Awards
The Associated Press named Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton the Pepsi Offensive Rookie of the Year in Indianapolis at the league's "NFL Honors" banquet. He also was named the league's Pepsi rookie of the year in a vote of the fans.
Newton received 47 of 50 possible votes for rookie of the year from the media that regularly covers the NFL. Cincinnati quarterback Andy Dalton received the other three votes. He had already received other rookie of the year awards, such as the one from The Sporting News that was in a vote of players, coaches and team executives.
Newton was an obvious choice after setting an NFL record for touchdowns rushing in a season by a quarterback with 14 and becoming the first player in league history to throw for 4,000 yards and rush for 500. He helped Carolina improve from 2-14 to 6-10, throwing for 21 touchdowns.
Denver Broncos linebacker Von Miller was named the Pepsi defensive rookie of the year.
